Shaker Dry Measure

New Lebanon, NY | c. 1850

Maple, pine, copper, and iron
Original oxidized surface
overall: 6 ½” h. x 10″ w. x 5 ⅝” d.
dipper: 2 ⅞” h. x 5 ⅝” dia.

A Shaker Dry Measure, or dipper, made by the New Lebanon community. Comprised of a maple and pine bentwood container secured with a straight row of copper tacks and a turned maple handle adhered with an iron rivet, this piece is a classic example in a pristine and virtually unused state of preservation. Stamped “DM” for New Lebanon Deacon David Meacham, Sr. (1744-1826), these initials authenticate this dipper as a Shaker-made product.
