In an outstanding state of preservation, this rare, circular Shaker Quatrefoil “Tub” Basket is tightly woven from ash with two carved “ear handles” and a split, single-lashed rim. The basket is lined with silk that has been pleated along the interior uprights and held in place with hand stitches.
According to Martha Wetherbee, co-author of Shaker Baskets (1988), the quatrefoil weave is unique to baskets made at Mount Lebanon.
