Shaker Light Stand

New Lebanon, NY  |  c. 1830

Cherry, ash, and pine
Old or original stain and varnish surface
25 ½” h. x 16 ⅛” dia.

Provenance: Robert & Hazel Belfit, Watertown, CT; acquired from the Mount Lebanon Shaker community.

A long, tapered post makes this classic Shaker form appear taller than it really is. The slight flaring near the base of the post provides a graceful transition to the legs, which is one of the finest examples of the Queen Anne snake foot.

Cherry, ash, and pine, retaining an old or original stain and varnish surface. Legs are attached to the pedestal with vertical dovetail joints, and the pedestal terminates in a threaded tenon that screws into a wooden cleat attached to the underside of the top.
