Yellow Shaker Round Storage Box – SOLD
Enfield, CT | c. 1880
Maple, pine, and steel
Old painted surface
3 ⅝“ h. x 6” dia.
Provenance: Watt & Jan White, Stamford, CT
The majority of Shaker-made pantry boxes are oval in shape, so a round Shaker box is a rarity, indeed. Equally rare is a straight-lapped Shaker Box. Typically, this style is associated with the pantry boxes made outside of Shaker communities, so this example, which is stamped, “Shakers N.F. Enfield, CT,” is doubly unusual.
Retaining an old mustard yellow opaque paint, this six-inch Round Box is fixed with steel rivets and wooden pins. It is in a fine state of preservation.
