Provenance:

A mid-nineteenth-century example of a Shaker Oval Storage Box from northern New England in an original apple green-painted surface. The Box is of an unusually shallow height with two, sharply tapered swallowtails on the base and a single swallowtail on the rim, fixed with an unusual quantity of copper rivets. The walls of the box are of thicker stock, a characteristic of boxes made in Alfred or Sabbathday Lake.
A name, “Nancy [illegible],” and initials, “NP,” are inscribed into the pine of the interior lid, along with a price of, “$3.00.” Overall, the Box is in an excellent state of preservation with a clean interior and minor evidence of wear from handling and use.
